Agung Podomoro Land Supports Temporary Housing for Flood and Landslide Survivors in Aceh

JAKARTA — More than 100 days after the devastating flash floods and landslides in Sumatra, recovery efforts are still ongoing in several affected areas. According to data from Indonesia’s National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), around 10,400 people in Aceh Province and 850 people in North Sumatra are still living in evacuation shelters. Meanwhile, West Sumatra reportedly no longer has displaced residents.
The situation highlights the urgent need for continued support, especially in providing proper temporary housing for disaster survivors. As part of its commitment to helping affected communities recover, PT Agung Podomoro Land Tbk. collaborated with Dompet Dhuafa to provide Temporary Housing Units (RUMTARA) for survivors in Aceh.
On Wednesday, April 8, 2026, Dompet Dhuafa symbolically received humanitarian support from Agung Podomoro Land for the construction of temporary housing in affected areas. The donation was handed over by Hidayat Bakri, AVP of Corporate Human Resource Agung Podomoro Land Tbk., to Etika Setiawanti, Director of Resource & Mobilization at Dompet Dhuafa.
The humanitarian fund came from donations collected by employees of Agung Podomoro Land and Agung Podomoro Group to help accelerate recovery efforts for flood and landslide survivors in Aceh.
Binafita Merianti, Head of Performance Development & Talent Management Division at Agung Podomoro Land, explained that temporary housing was chosen because it is considered one of the most urgent needs during the post-disaster recovery phase.
“We believe temporary housing is one of the most important needs right now. We wanted to support survivors not only during the disaster, but also in helping them rebuild their lives afterward,” she said.
A total of seven temporary housing units funded by Agung Podomoro Land employees will be built in Kampung Durian, Rantau, Aceh Tamiang. The initiative started from employee fundraising efforts shortly after the disaster occurred. The collected donations were then distributed through Dompet Dhuafa, which is widely recognized as a trusted humanitarian organization.
According to Shofa Qudus, Head of Disaster Management Center (DMC) Dompet Dhuafa, the temporary housing program is focused on two of the hardest-hit areas, Pidie Jaya and Aceh Tamiang. Many survivors are still living in emergency tents and urgently need safer and more comfortable shelters.
Dompet Dhuafa is targeting the construction of 1,000 temporary housing units across the three most affected provinces: Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra. The locations are being determined in coordination with local governments to ensure the aid reaches those who need it most.
“There are still many survivors living in tents, especially in Aceh Tamiang, which was among the worst affected areas. Thankfully, the temporary housing construction has been completed and can now support the recovery process by moving survivors into more comfortable living spaces,” said Shofa.
Agung Podomoro Land stated that the company fully supports the program because housing remains one of the most critical needs during disaster recovery. The company also considered Dompet Dhuafa’s strong reputation and experience in humanitarian assistance programs.
Hidayat Bakri added that the contribution represents the sincere care and solidarity of the company’s employees toward affected communities.
“This support came purely from employee donations. We believe temporary housing can provide longer-term benefits for survivors. Thank you to Dompet Dhuafa for helping us deliver this support, even though it is currently only seven units,” he said.
Meanwhile, Etika Setiawanti from Dompet Dhuafa expressed appreciation for the trust given by Agung Podomoro Land employees. She hopes the collaboration can become the beginning of a long-term partnership in supporting disaster-affected communities across Sumatra.
“Thank you for entrusting Dompet Dhuafa with this humanitarian support. We hope this collaboration becomes the start of a strong partnership to continue assisting communities in Sumatra until they are fully able to recover and become independent again,” she said.
Through the RUMTARA program, Agung Podomoro Land and Dompet Dhuafa hope disaster survivors in Aceh can recover in safer, more comfortable, and more dignified living conditions while rebuilding their lives after the disaster.
